A tribute to to Greene at the time of his death: "His novels had a truthfulness and meaning for their creator that was lacking in life ... the search for faith, the doubts about the validity of faith provided the material for the reality of the novels ... the masterpieces are the books that use the materials of the thriller with infinite subjects." Unsigned, with numerous handwritten corrections, additions and cross-outs.
